How it's made
How a Soul Mat is born
We use only 100% American-made fabrics and acid-free mat board. Every mat is made by hand, step by step, in our Greater Boston studio.
Shipping & returns
Delivered with care
Every mat is sealed in a clear sleeve that guards against moisture, then shipped flat in a sturdy mailer, so it arrives as perfect as it left our studio.
Shipping
In-stock mats ship in 2–3 business days. Made-to-order mats ship in 3–5 business days. Free local pickup in Greater Boston.
Returns
Return any unused in-stock mat within 14 days for a full refund. Custom mats are made just for you, so they can't be returned.
Return policy
- Arrived damaged? We are so sorry. If your mat arrives with a stain on the fabric or a tear in the mat board, just let us know within 7 days. We will take a look and happily replace it or refund you.
- Sending something back: we kindly ask you to cover the return shipping.
- Local pickup and drop-off: returns are always free.
- Custom and collage mats: because these are made just for you, we can only take them back if they arrive damaged. We will always do our best to make things right.

Your questions, answered
Will the mat fit my frame?
Yes. A mat's outside size matches the frame size, so an 8 × 10 mat fits any standard 8 × 10 frame. Check the size printed on your frame or its packaging.
How do I measure for a custom mat?
Measure the inside of your frame's back opening (where the glass sits) for the mat size, and measure your photo or artwork for the opening. Enter both in the Design Studio, or email us and we will help.
What size should my photo be?
Your photo should be a little bigger than the opening, so the mat holds its edges. For example, a 4 × 6 opening suits a 4 × 6 print. Tap the "i" next to How your photo fits in the Design Studio to see how it works.
Do mats come with a frame?
Mats are sold on their own. A frame is available on selected mats; look for the "Include the frame" box when you open a mat.
Can I see the fabric before I order?
Of course. Email or message us and we will send close-up photos or a small swatch of any fabric.
How do I care for a fabric mat?
Keep it behind glass, away from damp and direct sun. Dust gently with a soft, dry brush. Do not use water or cleaners.
Why does my mat look slightly different from another?
Each mat is cut and wrapped by hand, so small variations in weave and wrap are natural. They are the mark of real handwork and make every mat one of a kind.
